PERRLA is perfect for anyone tackling academic papers – from Associate degrees through post-Doctoral work. Every PERRLA Site License includes free, lifetime access for faculty and staff.

What is the Writing Timeline?

Students already write in PERRLA. The Writing Timeline turns the saves PERRLA already makes into a summary of a paper's writing sessions, time worked, how it grew, and the sources added and cited. Faculty open it from a link on the paper's title page with their free PERRLA account. It never shows the paper's text, earlier drafts, or dates and times of day, and it never labels writing as AI or human.

PERRLA's Institutional Partnerships: Improve Student Outcomes with Formatting

Q: How can our institution get started with PERRLA?

Connect with our CEO to explore how PERRLA can best address your institutional needs. Start the conversation at graysen@perrla.com.

Q: Where can students use PERRLA?

PERRLA works in Microsoft Word (desktop and web), PERRLA Online, Google Docs, and as a Google Chrome extension. Students always end with a perfectly formatted Word document to turn in.

Q: How much does PERRLA cost for institutions?

An annual PERRLA Site License starts at $9.95 per student. That includes full access to all PERRLA software (PERRLA Online, Word Add-in, Google Docs Extension, and Google Chrome Extension), daily support by our Student Success Team, and lifetime access for faculty and staff. A Site License needs only ten students to get started, and we support programs with thousands.

Why institutions choose PERRLA

Let your students focus on what's most important

Reduce faculty time spent correcting formatting – we handle formatting automatically so faculty can grade substance, not formatting.

Improve student outcomes – at Western Washington University, nursing students who used PERRLA averaged 9.5 out of 10 on APA formatting, compared with 7.5 for students who didn't, and their faculty stopped teaching citation formatting in class.

Show the work behind each paper – the Writing Timeline turns the saves PERRLA already makes into a summary of writing sessions and growth that faculty open from the title page.

Scalable for any program – PERRLA licensing is built to fit your program's size & needs.

See the work behind every paper

Students already write in PERRLA. The Writing Timeline turns the saves PERRLA already makes into a summary your faculty open from the title page. Nothing new is installed, and nothing new records your students.

What faculty see

✔️ Writing sessions and time worked

✔️ How the paper grew, including words cut while revising

✔️ Sources added and cited along the way

Private by design

✔️ Never shows the paper's text or earlier drafts

✔️ Day 1, Day 3, never dates or times of day

✔️ Never labels writing as AI or human

How it works at your school

✔️ A "View Writing Timeline" link on each paper's title page

✔️ Faculty open it with their free PERRLA account

✔️ Students can turn the link off, and nothing is deleted

Can students turn it off?

Yes. One switch on the Title Page panel takes the link off a paper, and turning it off deletes nothing. If your program requires the timeline, students turn the link back on before they submit.

What does it cover?

Research papers and discussion posts written in PERRLA Online and the PERRLA add-in for Microsoft Word. Papers written in Google Docs aren't included, and text pasted in from somewhere else shows only as a jump in word count. Links stay open for 60 days after a paper's last save.

How do we turn it on?

Tell us when you're ready. We send guides for your faculty and students, your program lets students know it's coming, and we turn it on for your school. There's no extra cost.

One license. Everything included.

An annual site license covers all PERRLA software, daily support, and free lifetime access for faculty & staff.

“No tool replaces learning APA. Students still need to understand why they cite sources and how scholarly writing works. But removing unnecessary formatting friction has allowed us to focus on the purpose of evidence-based writing rather than the mechanics alone.”

How can our institution get started?

Is there a free pilot for institutions?

Yes. We'll give your students PERRLA free for one semester, so your faculty can judge it by the papers they get back. Students can start as soon as we have a roster.
